More and more people are finding their home or second home on the southern Spanish costas - not only due to property prices being lower than in the UK, but more to the relaxed and healthy lifestyle in the warmer Spanish climate.With an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, the beautiful Costa Blanca is one of the preferred areas within Spain.
The Costa Blanca is an area of variation. The scenery ranges from flat salt plains and open curving beaches, to the rugged heights of the Sierra de Bernia and Jalon Valley. Whether you are looking for a beach front property in a lively tourist area or a quiet "casa de campo" hidden amongst swathes of orchard, you are sure to find your dream home here.As the area is, in the main, agricultural, there are vast areas of orange, lemon, nispero, avocado, almond and olive trees - not to mention the vineyards - that lend the area a peaceful, beautiful outlook that is a far cry from the industrialised towns with which you may be more familiar.
There is an abundance of fresh fish here too - Alicante and Calpe ports being of prime importance to the fishing industry - and the combination of fresh fish, outstanding fruit and vegetables, olive oil and local wine (at ridiculously low prices) means that the diet here is truly healthy. Particularly if you indulge in the local cuisine: grilled sardines and tomato salads.
You will probably only notice how good everything tastes but your body will thank you for the difference!It's hard not to take part in an active lifestyle too. The coastline offers many spectacular snorkelling and diving locations, alongside all other watersports such as sailing, windsurfing, fishing, waterskiing and kite surfing.
There are many well marked paths for walking, whether along coastal paths, such as that from Villajoyosa to La Cala de Finestrat, or more mountainous pathways along the Sierra de Bernia and Sierra de Aitana. The view from the top of the Sierra de Bernia is awesome, you can almost see right into the cafes and bars of Ibiza!The area is also of cultural and historical importance too with many ruins, forts and museums to visit.
